Janis Ian sits down to talk with Kyle Meredith about The Light at the End of the Line, which has been announced to be her final studio album. The legendary folk songwriter tells us why she is choosing to close this chapter of her career, the public perception of artists after the spotlight has moved on, and leaving easter eggs within the new set that speak to some of her past classics. Ian goes on to discuss writing a song about Nina Simone and their complicated friendship, as well as writing “Resist” as an answer to a male-dominated industry and society.

"Resist" by Janis Ian from The Light at the End of the Line (Rude Girl - Jan 20, 2022). Great track for AAA, Noncomm, Folk, Americana, Women, Classic Hits radio. Video by Carol Waechter. From Janis: "For me, 'Resist' is the logical outgrowth of 'Society's Child' and 'At Seventeen'. It speaks to the same issues, in a completely different way. And while I played the acoustic and sang lead, credit to Randy Leago for playing and singing everything else on this track, arranging, and co-producing. There are a couple of 'Easter eggs' buried in there too, if you can hear them!"
"I'm Still Standing" by Janis Ian from The Light at the End of the Line (Rude Girl - Jan 20, 2022). Great track for AAA, Noncomm, Folk, Americana, Women, Classic Hits radio. "Tony King was a big part of my Better Times Project (bettertimeswillcome.com). When I asked a few friends if they had time to help with a video, he immediately sent this. I love the inclusiveness of it, and the message he sends with the visuals. The only thing he asked in return was that I share the tip jar link for his group, Beautifully Mad, since that’s how they’ve been surviving Covid. https://tinyurl.com/BeautifullyMad" - Janis Ian
"Summer in New York" by Janis Ian from The Light at the End of the Line (Rude Girl - Jan 20, 2022). Great track for AAA, Noncomm, Folk, Americana, Women, Classic Hits radio. A video by Carol Waechter. "Summer is my favorite time to be in New York. Despite the heat and humidity, there’s a hum to the city you don’t find any other time of year. Chess and congas, ice cream vendors and free outdoor concerts… it’s magical. Growing up in New Jersey, spending time in “The City: during the summer months was always a highlight. By the way, this was the very first video Carol Waechter, whose video of “Resist” has garnered so much press attention, ever created!" - Janis Ian
